Comics in the Digital Age

Last week, I moderated a panel on this subject at Full Sail University as a part of their Hall of Fame week.

I’ve sat on panels before, but this was by far the most immediately practical and useful. If you are interested in making it in the comics biz, I think you will get a lot out of it.

Enjoy!

MattyLovesPodcast Episode 45: “Pokémon Go! or, no?”

mattyloves

NOTE: This episode was recorded over a week and a half ago. The reason for this disclaimer is to appease Matt’s Poké-ego (he’s almost a Level 22 at this point). And yes, he’s spent a little coin on the game. Enjoy Matt’s hypocrisy at the end of the episode. Thank you.

Welcome to another episode of MattyLovesPodcast!

This episode focuses on a trend that has swept the entire world (for those who can play): Pokémon Go! Matt de Simone tries to explain the game to “Dr. Tom.”

Meanwhile, while Matt’s hunting for Pokémon, “The Street Shaman” has began to building Legos in his spare time to help dial back his time in front of the Netflix and the whatnot.

It’s a nice, relaxing, and informative episode. Enjoy!

Podcast Anniversary Week!

A mere year ago, Matty and I fired up the laptop and started recording. A year later, we have roughly 40 episodes and with no plans to stop, who knows how far we can go?

Thanks to all for listening, even if only for a minute. To celebrate our anniversary, we knocked out several episodes which have been trickling out over the last week.

Rather than clog your inbox with several posts, here they are (little secret — I went on a long holiday and completely unplugged). Sorry to vomit all this content out on ya.

Enjoy.

MattyLovesPodcast EPISODE FIFTEEN: “Night Brothers of the Night”

The show is getting better and better. Join us every Friday this month for Halloween-themed fun and jibber jabber.

mattyloves

Episode fifteen continues our Halloween Primer!

DR. J explains his dissertation, DRAGON MAGAZINE, and gaming.

SID better explains CREEPYPASTA for the listeners, the SLENDERMAN, and STEPHEN KING’S “THREE LEVELS OF HORROR.”

MATT talks briefly about MARBLE HORNETS.

The guys talk about the joy of research and horror.

“DR. TOM” talks about the game, “Call of Cthulhu.” Roll for insanity.

Star Trek VI somehow makes its way into the conversation.

MATT speaks briefly on the new comic, Tokyo Ghost in relation to Mike Judge’s Idiocracy.

What does it take to write HORROR? How do some of these guys come up with this stuff? SID explains.

The guys also give a few of their favorite HALLOWEEN films.

Enjoy one of the most enjoyable discussions yet.

Matt and “Dr.” Tom are excited about their upcoming fall sporting events.

Good news! The DEADPOOL trailer is totally awesome.

Bad news! FANTASTIC FOUR, not so much.

Matt is already pumped up for STAR WARS this December.

What would Matt and Tom do with the FANTASTIC FOUR franchise?

What to watch on NETFLIX:
SENSE 8 (pilot)
EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP – the BANKSY documentary
LOST SOUL: THE DOOMED JOURNEY OF RICHARD STANLEY’S ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU – documentary on director Richard Stanley’s failed attempt to complete his work on 1996’s Island of Dr. Moreau

Matt and Tom rip through some of their FAVORITE TEAMS in the history of entertainment. Comics, television, sports–no one is safe.

— In the mid-90s, did anything substantial happen in comics story-wise?

— Matt still digs the original AGE OF APOCALYPSE.

— Check out the SUPERMAN run by JEPH LOEB and ED McGUINNESS.

— KINGDOM COME still plays.

— Tom has bad luck with comic book collections.

— Matt and Tom wish to be friends with KEVIN SMITH on a first name basis. Read: DAREDEVIL: GUARDIAN DEVIL.

— Would you listeners consider 2003-10 (or maybe even now) to be the “event era” of comic book history?

— Matt and Tom run through their most recent years of reading and collecting comics.

ENJOY!
