Comics in the Digital Age

Last week, I moderated a panel on this subject at Full Sail University as a part of their Hall of Fame week.

I’ve sat on panels before, but this was by far the most immediately practical and useful. If you are interested in making it in the comics biz, I think you will get a lot out of it.

Enjoy!

I’m Speaking on a Panel – TONIGHT (3/19) 7pm EST!!!

Hi All,

Sorry for the late notice!

I’m speaking on a panel at Full Sail University as a part of its Hall of Fame week. The panel is all about self-publishing: the ins and outs, the whys and wherefores, the do and the do nots.

The panel will be streaming live on YouTube and is instantly archived so if you can’t tune in tonight, I hope you will catch up with me soon after.

Beside kicking the science, I’ll be debuting a new sport coat, so please join tonight at 7pm EST right here:

Lightning Rides and Other Highs: My Poetry Collection

Screen Shot 2014-06-29 at 12.42.11 PM

I have a small collection of my early poetry that has been available online for almost two years, but I have never bothered to promote it.

Not sure why. Perhaps I wasn’t feeling confident or the fact that it’s only an ebook, or that the platform that sells it was new at the time and I didn’t know if they would make it.

Well, it’s time to let my neglected child see the light of day. So here it is.

It’s only $1.50 and features some of the poems on this site and other early works. As long as you have an e-reader that can handle an ePub file, you’ll be good to go.

Happy Sunday.

Call for Reviews

Well, I’ve hit the indie author wall.

Here’s the thing…book visibility on Amazon is partially driven by reviews. Supposedly something magical happens once you get at least 20. I think gnomes visit your home at night and tickle your toes. I dunno.

Anyway, if you A) read my book and  B) liked it, would you take a few moments and throw a review up there for me? Three sentences, not a book report. Just a little something something?

I have been avoiding asking for reviews since I published, but I have come to learn that it is a must. It just seems so self-serving, but hell.

Use the Contact page to message me with a link to your review and I’ll send you some cool cover art stickers and postcards.

Book Signing Event – 8/3 Indie BookFest 2013

ORLANDO PEEPS!

This Saturday — Join me and a room full of other Indie Authors at the Indie BookFest 2013, located at the lovely Buena Vista Palace.

Open book signing from 1:30-3:30pm. I’ll be signing books and giving away freebies along with my friends in the Orlando Indie Authors group.

Come by and pretend you’re a guest of the hotel. I hear the pool is mighty nice.

Book Signing…SUCCESS.

Last Saturday, I had a book signing event at Docking Bay 94 Comics and Games down in the Boca Raton, FL area. I spent about seven years living in the Boca Bubble and I can tell you from experience that it will warp your priorities. I felt just a slight tinge of justice served as I returned the favor.

We had a solid turnout, and I had the chance to see many old friends, co-conspirators, and excited new disciples. I have also heard a report that one person may have received a speeding ticket trying to make it before the event was over. Unfortunately, the alleged traffic violator did not make it in time…if I can confirm this, I will name a character after her in a future story. It’s the least I can do.

Even though I stand in front of a room and talk for a living, I always feel a bit strange being the center of attention — especially when I plan to be. Fortunately, everyone was so cool that I forgot about how weird I am and it’s nice to have a vacation from that.

The overall response to the book has been encouraging. I’ve heard enough positive remarks to keep moving forward. It could be that my author photo keeps a few trolls out of my life. I do look like I’ll take your lunch money. Remember: if you look dangerous, you don’t have to be dangerous.

In other news:

I have just under a week left in my Goodreads giveaway. I’m giving 10 free, signed copies of Leather to the Corinthians. If you don’t have a copy yet, or need something to prop up a wobbly table, then take a moment to click HERE.

Also, my book ended up…ah ok, I hijacked this Listopia on Goodreads…Best Social and Political Satires. Again, if you are on Goodreads, can you throw me a vote? I’m all the way up to #2. Click HERE to vote.

Lastly, Amazon has added new categories for Kindle, and Leather is currently #68 in Metaphysical and Visionary. I have no idea how this happened, but I dig the Visionary part.

Here’s some pics from the book signing. Thanks to all who came out to support me and my madness. YOU ROCK.

Upcoming Events for June

Two exciting, upcoming events:

Book Signing:

Tomorrow, I’ll be in the Boca Raton area selling and signing books at Docking Bay 94 Comics. The event is from 3-6, but with the many old friends that I am expecting to see, I imagine I’ll be there at little longer. Hope to see you there! If you can’t make it, don’t worry — I’ll be taking lots of pictures.

Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/165348286962829/

I’m currently giving away 10 signed copies of my novel, Leather to the Corinthians. There’s just under two weeks left! Sign up the Giveaway here, and please tell your friends, loved ones, and cherished enemies.
